Follow me in Puglia – Part 1

During this Easter break we decided to visit Italy for our annual holiday. The reason why we chose Italy was because of this song. Both me and Arpit fell in love with the beautiful white cone-roofed houses. We did some research to figure out the exact location of the scenic places featured in the video. Finally we were able to trace the place down to Puglia in southern Italy.  We agreed on the holiday location and started planning for the trip. I wanted to create a relaxed itinerary to avoid any unwanted organising stress. Also I am not a planning freak – my idea of holiday is lazing and relaxing in natural scenic surrounding. In our six day trip to Puglia we explored some very unique and picturesque locations. Travelling during the non-holiday season meant we were able to enjoy the beauty of the region away from the hustle of holiday tourist crowds. In the coming weeks I intend to post a series of blog posts sharing my Italy fashion and travel diaries with you. I hope you’ll enjoy my scenic ride through Puglia and get some ideas for your next holiday.

Easter Holiday – No one on the roads

Narrow lanes

We landed in Bari and from there hired a car to reach Conversano. Conversano is a small ancient town near Bari. The GPS took us round and round the town and just when we were about to give up, we managed to find our hotel. If you are travelling to Puglia, Italy make sure you learn a bit of Italian to be able to ask directions and basic questions otherwise you’ll be lost. Thankfully Arpit did learn some Italian before our trip and it saved us from a lot of trouble. In Conversano we stayed in Relais Corte Altavilla. We made our bookings through the Charming Puglia website, a very useful resource if you intend to visit Puglia. Day one was spent just roaming around the town, the main square and the Cathedral. Unfortunately it was Easter Sunday so all shops were closed in the afternoon and the town was completely dead between 2 and 5 pm. I would have liked the shops to be open but actually it was quiet fun to roam around the narrow lanes with no one around and simply admiring the beauty of the place and its ancient buildings. Our afternoon was spent walking around the ghost town and in the evening we enjoyed our dinner out at the piazza.

On day one in Conversano I wore this flower print dress from ZARA. This piece is actually from last year’s collection but I managed to get hold of it during winter sales this year. I think the dress is ideal for a city break look. You can team it up with a crop black leather jacket to beat the chill in the evenings. I styled the dress with black and gold buckle detail leather sandals from Asos and black wrap band from H&M. It was quite comfortable to walk around the town in these black sandals but the only drawback was they left horrible black marks when I took them off. But still they are my wardrobe staple for Summer 2014.
